Poppy Starr Olsen

Professional Skateboarder and Entrepreneur

Poppy Star was the first Australian female to compete in the Summer X Games, Bronze medalist in the 2017 Women’s Skateboard Park competition and Bronze Medalist at the 2018 World Skate Championships, just to name a few of her long list of accomplishments. 
In her free time, Poppy is also a successful entrepreneur and artist, selling her jewellery and greeting cards in shops throughout Australia and online to help fund her skating career. She says she sees skate parks, with their sweeping curves and abstract lines, as “skateable art.”
Poppy Star is also an accomplished speaker, most noted for her TED talk at the age of 14. She is a humble, incredibly hard-working and talented young woman who inspires others to follow their passions.

Murray Hurps

Director of Entrepreneurship – UTS

Murray is passionately driving work to attract, inspire and support technology-enabled entrepreneurs at UTS. Prior to joining UTS, Murray developed software used by over 100 million users (Ad Muncher), implemented the largest survey of Australia’s startup ecosystem (Startup Muster), grew Australia’s largest network of startup hubs (Fishburners), and designed and implemented Australia’s first data-focused accelerator program (FUELD) for Australia’s oldest company (Westpac).

Emma Earley

Operations Manager UTS Startups

Emma is UTS Startups Operations Manager, UTS Law alumna and two-time startup founder and co-founder of ethical childrenswear label, well & solis. She is passionate about inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs and supporting tech-enabled startups at scale.

Sinay Salomon

Founder of aXonPlay

Sinay Salomon is the founder and CEO of aXonPlay, her mission is to improve the lives of people living on the Autism Spectrum and those with social anxieties through the design and delivery of fun and engaging digital games and content.

Shivangi Singh

Founder of Caelus Intelligence

Through UTS Startups (UTSS), Shivangi and her co-founder Amir are working to create an app that enables access to recent satellite imagery and its accompanying data analysis using their specialised machine learning tools. They hope their startup, Caelus Intelligence, positively impacts industries such as agriculture, construction, and insurance.

Stephanie Weiss

Founder of Arula

Inspired by women in her community who underwent mastectomies due to breast cancer, Stephanie Weiss founded Arula in September 2019. The aim is to create customised breast prosthesis fitted for shape and movement. Currently in the prototyping stage, Stephanie is seeking women who are willing to test the product and designs.

Katherine O’Donoghue 

Community Manager UTS Startups

Kat is the UTS Startups Community Manager and is passionate about all things community engagement and founder support! With a BA in Public Communications, her background includes event management and marketing.

Corporate lawyer turned entrepreneur, investor, venture partner, startup coach and advisor, Noga Edelstein will welcome attendees to the first event in the Enterprising Women National Summit series.

What it takes to become an entrepreneur, business owner or founder. What are the pathways to a successful career in STEM, Tech and Entrepreneurship? How do I validate and commercialise my idea? Hear from inspirational women and the best in the business in this informative and engaging panel discussion.

Industry professionals and business founders share their expertise on specific topics including: 

  • Innovation and social enterprise with Sinay Salomon – Founder of aXonPlay 
  • Creating a startup – from concept idea to delivery with Shivangi Singh – Founder of Caelus Intelligence
  • Science and technology in entrepreneurship with Stephanie Weiss – Founder of Arula 
  • Exploring problems, reframing them as opportunities and identifying their root causes. Learn ideation techniques and begin your validation process as you prepare your idea for submission into the Kickstarter Challenge with not for profit social enterprise Young Change Agents (YCA)

Keynote Address

Hear from guest speaker Murray Hurps – Director of Entrepreneurship for UTS, about his work to inspire and support technology-enabled entrepreneurs at UTS. A high school dropout who founded a software company that grew to 100 million users, Murray discusses how technology is enabling people to create and distribute new solutions to problems, and how people can seize these opportunities for their future impact and success.
